Hermitage castle
Long before the construction of a residence, these lands were occupied by a hermitage where some monks retired. The present castle was built at the end of the 19th century, well after this first occupation. Known by several names, according to its occupations and its various owners, it was requisitioned during the First World War to become a Kommandantur, limiting the owner’s occupation to three rooms of the castle. It was subsequently bought by the City of Wavre and since then has hosted various events and exhibitions in its rooms.

Le Maca
This boy, with a mischievous face, climbing the steps of the Town Hall is le Maca, one of the symbols of the town of Wavre! He represents the rebellious and sometimes mocking spirit attributed to the Wavrians. According to legend, stroking his buttocks brings good luck. During the City Hall renovation works, le Maca can be seen at the tourist office VisitWavre.
